1.0 IPC-A-610 Application Specialist (CIS)

Operator Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies

The education and training goal of this program is to improve individual “discrimination” skills; that is, to improve accuracy of discrimination between “acceptable” or “unacceptable” electronic assembly per the IPC-A-610 series. This program will also teach individuals the reasons for the accept/reject criteria to enhance their motivation and ability to consistently and correctly apply the discrimination criteria.

OBJECTIVES:

Upon satisfactory completion of this course:

  • Students will be able to make correct “accept/reject” decisions for the appropriate class/classes of production based on the acceptability requirements of IPC-A-610.

2.0 ANSI/J-STD-001

Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies

The purpose of this course is to assist the electronic manufacturer in the production of high quality products at the lowest possible cost by providing a greater understanding of the soldering and assembly processes through “standard” training.

This course assumes that the students know some of the basic concepts and materials associated with hand soldering. If students have not previously preformed soldering activities then additional training will be necessary prior to attending this course. Blackfox recommends our applicable soldering series modules for remedial study.

COURSE STRUCTURE:

Module 1 – (Mandatory) 1 day
Overview of J-STD-001 requirements and general requirements.
Module 2 – (optional) 1 day
Study of the J-STD requirements applicable to the assembly and soldering of Wires and Terminals and practical exercises for development and demonstration of soldering skills.
Module 3 – (optional) 1 day
Study of the J-STD requirements applicable to the assembly and soldering of Through Hole connections and practical exercises for development and demonstration of soldering skills.

Operator Recertification

The purpose of this course is to assist the electronic manufacturer produce high quality products at the lowest possible cost by providing a greater understanding of the soldering and assembly processes through “standard” training.

This course is for students currently certified to J-STD-001.

COURSE STRUCTURE:

This course will re-certify operators to applicable J-STD modules. Module 1 is not required for re-certification. Operators will review important aspects of each applicable module they were originally certified in.

Module 2 - Wires and Terminals - 4 hours

2.2 ANSI/J-STD-001 with DS Application Specialist (CIS)

3.0 IPC-7711 Application Specialist (CIS)

Operator Rework of Electronic Assemblies

The IPC-7711 Rework of Electronic Assemblies is the Electronic Industry’s standard for the guidelines on removing and replacing electronic components. This course teaches the IPC recommended techniques, tools, equipment and materials required to perform removal and replacement operations on Plated Through Hole and Surface Mount Assemblies.

OBJECTIVES:

The student will understand the technical guidelines of the IPC-7711/7721 by developing and demonstrating the skills necessary to perform rework at the advanced level.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the IPC-7711/7721 by successfully completing open and closed book exam
  • Demonstrate recommended wire splicing techniques
  • Remove and replace Plated Through Hole components
  • Remove and replace Chip and MELF Surface Mount components
  • Remove and replace SOIC Gull Wing and SOT Surface Mount components
  • Remove and replace J-lead Surface Mount components

These activities will be completed using a variety of methods including vacuum extraction, component specific tip, tweezer tips, and a hot air removal system.

This course provides a thorough review of the IPC recommended techniques, tools, equipment and materials required to perform removal and replacement operations on Plated Through Hole and Surface Mount Assemblies.

Certification for Application Specialist (CIS) Recertification

This course is for Operators who are previously certified to 7711/7721. It is required by IPC to recertify before the 24-month certification expires. This course provides a thorough review of procedures and update information on policies and program requirements, as well as the opportunity to demonstrate hands-on skill proficiency.

This course is designed to certify Operators/Inspectors in identifying characteristics that are observable from the surface of the printed circuit board surface. This will include characteristics that may be either external or internal but visible from the surface.

    IPC/WHMA-A-620 is the first industry standard for cable and wire harness fabrication and installation.
