1.0 IPC-A-610 Certified IPC Trainer (CIT)

Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies

The IPC-A-610, “Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies,” is the most widely used specification for the electronic assembly industry. This course will greatly assist any company dedicated to ISO-9000 or any other quality assurance initiative. IPC specifications are widely accepted, therefore, this comprehensive training and certification will have immediate recognition and legitimacy throughout the electronics industry.

OBJECTIVES:

Upon Successful completion of this learning activity, Instructors will be certified to conduct Operator “Applications Specialist (CIS) certifications and re-certifications. Instructors will obtain the knowledge to:

Recertification

This course is for Certified IPC Trainer (CIT) who are previously certified to instruct IPC-A-610 Application Specialist (CIS) courses. It is required by IPC to re-certify before your 24-month certification expires. If your certification expires, you will not be certified to conduct Operator courses until you are re-certified. This course provides a review study of the accept/reject criteria for all three classes of assembly production.

2.0 ANSI J-STD-001 Certified IPC Trainer (CIT)

Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies

The IPC J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies has emerged as the pre-eminent authority for electronics manufacturing. The standard describes materials, methods and verification criteria for producing high quality soldered interconnections. The standard emphasizes process control and sets industry consensus requirements for electronic products ranging from simple to high performance, life support systems.

This Certification includes the study of five modules, which can be taught independently. They include: 1) General Study of the Standard, 2) Terminals and Posts, 3) PTH Assembly, 4) SMT Assembly, and 5) Inspection. The successful completion of this training and certification will provide immediate recognition and legitimacy.

OBJECTIVES:
  • The lab soldering demonstrations must meet minimum requirements of the J-STD-001 as determined by the Master Instructor.
  • An overall score of 80% or better on the written exams and on the workmanship samples is necessary for certification.

3.0 IPC 7711/7721 Certified IPC Trainer (CIT)

Rework of Electronic Assemblies and Repair and Modification of Printed Boards and Assemblies

The IPC-7711Rework of Electronic Assemblies and the IPC-7721 Repair and Modification of Printed Boards and Assemblies are the Electronic Industry’s manuals for the guidelines on re-installing or replacing electronic components and repairing circuitry with minimum impact on quality and reliability. The training program provides a detailed review of the IPC-7711 and IPC-7721criteria.

OBJECTIVES:

Upon Successful completion of this learning activity, Instructors will be certified to instruct Application Specialist certifications. Instructors will obtain the knowledge to:

  • Identify the differences between Class 3 target and acceptable quality
  • Demonstrate Through-Hole, J-lead, Gull-Wing, Fine Pitch, and Chip component rework and replacement proficiently to Class 3 standards, using a variety of methods.
  • Perform conformal coating removal, laminate repair, pad and trace repair and place and route modification wires
  • Conduct Operator courses per IPC requirements
  • Correctly interpret and teach the intent of the IPC 7711/7721 standard
  • Explain the IPC terminology and definitions
  • Successfully pass the Instructor’s written exam with a score of 80% or better and perform at Class 3 Acceptable for the practical exam.

Recertification

This course is for “Certified IPC Trainers” that are previously certified to instruct 7711/7721. It is required by IPC to recertify before the 24-month certification expires. This course provides a thorough review of procedures and update information on policies and program requirements, as well as the opportunity to demonstrate hands-on skill proficiency.

OBJECTIVES:

Upon Successful completion of this learning activity, Instructors will be certified to instruct Application Specialist certification and recertification. Instructors will obtain the knowledge to:

  • State the purpose, scope, schedule, and grading criteria of the recertification course.
  • State IPC policies that govern operation of 7711/7721 certification and recertification program.

4.0 IPC-A-600 Certified IPC Trainer (CIT)

Acceptability of Printed Circuit Boards

The IPC-A-600, “Acceptability of Printed Circuit Boards,” is the most widely used specification for the PCB industry. The training program provides a detailed review of the IPC-A-600 criteria and concludes with a qualifying exam.

It is required by IPC to re-certify before your 24-month certification expires. 5.0 IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certified IPC Trainer (CIT)

Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Harness Assemblies

IPC/WHMA-A-620A is the first industry standard for cable and wire harness fabrication and installation. The final product use classifications are defined and include criteria for acceptability conditions. This criterion is supported by over 500 full color illustrations. This training provides a detailed overview of the IPC/WHMA-A-620A Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Harness Assemblies and concludes with a qualifying examination. Certified Instructors are then qualified to teach Application Specialist training.

OBJECTIVES:

Upon successful completion of this training program participants will be certified as Certified IPC Trainers. With this portable credential, Instructors can train and certify operators and inspectors based on needs Instructors will obtain the knowledge to:

6.0 ANSI J-STD-001 DS Certified IPC Trainer (CIT)

Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies with Space Hardware Addendum Requirements

The IPC J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies is the pre-eminent authority for electronics manufacturing. The standard describes materials, methods and verification criteria for producing high quality soldered interconnections. The standard emphasizes process control and sets industry consensus requirements for electronic products ranging from simple to high performance, life support systems. Included is an optional module for those wishing to understand the extended requirements for products that MUST survive the vibration and thermal cyclic environments of getting to and operating in space.

This Certification includes the study of six modules, which include: 1) General Study of the Standard , 2) Terminals and Posts, 3) PTH Assembly, 4) SMT Assembly, 5) Inspection, and 6) Space Hardware Addendum. The successful completion of this training and certification will provide immediate recognition and legitimacy.

OBJECTIVES:
  • The lab soldering demonstrations must meet minimum requirements of the J-STD-001 as determined by the Master Instructor.
  • Module 6 the Space Hardware addendum IS NOT a stand alone module. You must be certified to J-STD-001 Revision D to take and obtain certification.

7.0 J-STD-001D Certified IPC Trainer (CIT)

Requirements for Space Hardware Addendum

This course is for currently Certified IPC Instructors certified to instruct J-STD-001D Application Specialist courses. Anyone mandated to use J-STD-001DS is required to have workers trained and certified to the formal IPC J-STD-001 DS course, and traceable to a Master Instructor. This information is of specific interest to support the manufacturers whose products must survive the vibration and cyclic temperatures of going to or operating in space.

OBJECTIVES:

Upon successful completion of this learning activity, Instructors will be certified to instruct the optional DS Module 6 of the IPC J-STD-001DS Space Hardware Addendum. Instructors will obtain the knowledge to:

  • Interpret the differences between the requirements of class 3 and the supplemental requirements for products going to or operating in space.
  • Reference the J-STD-001D and Space Hardware standards to make accept/reject decisions
  • Proficiently conduct optional DS training for Application Specialists using IPC requirements
  • Successfully pass the additional 25 question exam with a score of 80% or better
